Arrive in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, an ancient city and World Heritage Site. Once the capital of Thailand (A.D. 807 – 1767), Ayutthaya was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on December 13, 1991.
Attractions :
- Wat Mahathat : One of the most impressive Buddha head statues located at the base of a Bodhi tree. It was once a royal monastery and a residence for the Supreme Patriarch during the early Ayutthaya period.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet : The largest and most important temple within the royal palace area in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, and a model for the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.
Viharn Phra Mongkol Bophit : Located to the south of Wat Phra Si Sanphet. This viharn houses Phra Mongkol Bophit, a large Buddha statue that was damaged during the second Ayutthaya period but has been fully restored with gilded bronze.
Wat Lokayasutharam : Believed to have been constructed in the mid-Ayutthaya period. The temple features the largest reclining Buddha statue on the island of Ayutthaya and is one of the largest in Thailand.
